41 And his parents
journeyed every year to Jerusalem at the feast of the
Passover.
42 And when he became
twelve years old they ascended according to the custom of the feast,
43 and fulfilled the days,
and while they were returning the child Jesus remained behind in Jeruselem,
and his parents did not know it.
44 But they reckoned that he
was in the caravan and went a day away, and they began to seek him amongst
their kinsmen and acquaintances.
45 And when they did not
find him they returned to Jerusalem, seeking him there.
46 And it happened that
after three days they found him in the temple sitting in the midst of
the teachers, both listening to them and asking things of them.
47 And all those listening
to him were amazed at his understanding and his answers.
48 And when they saw him
they were astonished, and his mother said toward him: Child, why did
you do this to us? Behold, your father and I were anxiously seeking
you.
49 And he said toward them:
Why did you seek me? Did you not know that I must be at the things of my
father?
50 And they themselves
did not understand the word that he spoke to them.
51 And he descended
with them and went to Nazareth, and he was subjected to them.
And his mother kept all these words up in her heart.
52 And Jesus progressed
in wisdom and age, and in grace with God and man.
